In addition to the usual massive, way over the top, celebrations all over the state – thousands of AIADMK workers distributing cakes and sweets to Amma cut-outs, performing paal-abhishekam for her life-size portraits, decorating every nook and corner of the state with large banners, staging blood donation camps, anna dhaanam (feeding the poor for free), zealots thronging to Poes Garden and prostrating before her feet and seeking her blessings – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s birthday will be marked in a very special way. Internet giant Google’s Indian subsidiary, Google India, has come up with a special birthday Doodle dedicated to the puratchi thalaivi.
With this, Jayalalithaa becomes the first Indian Chief Minister and woman politician to boast of a Doodle for herself. The Doodle has been designed by Google India creative head Saravana Murugesan, a die-hard Amma fan. The doodle, embellished with Amma’s face and the AIADMK colors and symbol, also for the first time has the subscript India replaced by “Amma.”
The search engine has been aptly optimized, with search queries like “Jayalalithaa + dictator”, “Jayalalithaa + corruption”, “Jayalalithaa + Viswaroopam ban” yielding no results. On the other hand, searches terms like “Jayalalithaa + Karan Thapar”, “Jayalalithaa + Karunanidhi arrest”, “Jayalalithaa + Vijayakanth fight” will generate lightning quick results. So too will be the case for “DMK + land grabbing”, “DMK + 2G scam” and “Chidambaram + fraud Sivaganga election.”
The Doodle also features an automatic playlist of yesteryear super-hit songs of the MGR-Jayalalithaa duo. The Chief Minister has profusely expressed her gratitude to Google India, but added that it would’ve been “just perfect” if it were named “JooJle.” However, arch-rival and DMK patriarch, Thiru Mu.Karunanidhi, hasn’t taken too well to the development and has immediately requested Microsoft Inc to come up with a special “Bing” Doodle for himself. Karunanidhi has promised a mixer-grinder for each person who uses positive search queries about the DMK on Bing as an additional incentive.
