Barely a week after lashing out at the University Grants Commission, in which he labeled it an organization of corrupt, bribe-seeking officials and claimed that he was proud about the Indian Institute of Planning and Management not being recognized by it, founder Arindham Chaudhuri has hit out at microblogging site, Twitter, in a similar fashion.
“I should say Twitter and Facebook are sites that are full of humour-seeking sadistic people where, even people with top number of followers have a track record of being mercilessly funny and hilarious. The standards of decorum they have created in the internet is shameful, to say the least. I am proud to not have my account verified by Twitter,” Chaudhuri said.
Twitter has now been forced by the pony-tailed professor to block one of its own tweets. “We had tweeted that we have not yet verified the @Arindham_IIPM handle from which he claims to tweet, so it could be a fake account. He has been pestering us to delete that tweet and even threatened to get a court order to block it if we didn’t do so. But one of our juvenile interns unfortunately did it when he called at a moment when we weren’t around, ” disclosed Twitter CEO Dick Costolo.
“Why should they tweet just about me? There are so many people with unverified accounts – Subramanian Swamy, Digvijaya Singh etc. Why am I being targeted here?! Why should they tweet only about me! I WILL NOT TOLERATE SUCH NONSENSE,” retorted an irate Chaudhuri.
Meanwhile, in a major blow to social networking site Facebook, an image put out by the site, intended to hit out at rival Twitter, titled “Dare to think beyond Twitter!” had to be blocked by its own self, due to apparent copyright infringement.
