India’s most popular quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, is all set to embrace cutting edge digital technology in its seventh season by including “Googling for an answer” as a new lifeline. The new search engine option will replace the “Ask the expert”, which has let down contestants on many occasions in the past.
Confirming the new lifeline was Big B himself, who tweeted: “T-4567 KBC will have ‘Googling’ as a new lifeline! Answer to be searched and told within 10 seconds! It is a real test of search of googling skills – about 7-8 seconds can be used to frame proper search terms, half a second for Google to return the answer and 1 and half seconds for the human reflexes to register the answer and blurt it out. Also, if you’re lucky, Google might give you the answer even as you’re typing!,” before proceeding for a trial run of the lifeline, by ordering, “Computer ji, Google kiya jaaye!”
The megastar himself relies on Google to answer his queries on the personal front, rather than relying on human input – especially when it comes to his son, Abhishek. However, even Google has failed to answer some of his questions such as: “When will Abhishek have a hit?” to which the search engine simply returned “No idea”.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be appearing as a guest in this season, said, “Thank God for Google’s ‘Did you mean?’ option yaar. Otherwise, God only knows how I would have managed to search for things effectively,” before proceeding to tweet: “hai guys, I’ll be playing in this seeson of Kaun Banega Carorepati! So eksited (sic).”
However, Big B also sounded a note of caution that Google cannot be blindly trusted. “For example, if there’s a question like this: ‘Who was the first cricketer to be knighted?’ and someone googles it, the first set of results he gets will invariably be about Sir Ravindra Jadeja, even though that hasn’t happened yet,” Big B said.
