Applogize, the latest Android App to hit the market, was officially launched today at the Google Headquarters in Mountain View, by the very person who inspired its conception and development, Congress MP and son of President Pranab Mukherjee, Abhijit Mukherjee.

The app has been designed by Google’s ace software developer and MIT-educated IIT Madras-alumnus Avinashi Shanmugam, and as the name suggests, tenders a profuse apology to a person over and over again. “It was like a Whatsapp moment for me, you know! After slogging my butt off in vain, to improve Google+, I decided to take a break and catch up on some news in my home country. That’s when I happened to stumble across a viral video of an episode of The Newshour, with Arnab Goswami, well, Arnab-ing Abhijit Mukherjee. The way he went on replying, ‘I apologize’ instantly gave me this idea. Applogize can be an app exclusively for apologizing to people, just like Whatsapp is an app to ask someone “What’s up?” I’ve never had a girlfriend, but I’ve seen a lot of couples in love constantly fighting. I felt that they would make an amazing target audience for my app. But now, looking at the scores of Indian politicians who’re making ridiculous remarks, I feel this app has an awesome market in India too,” Shanmugam told The UnReal Times reporter in California, Sir G.Grin.

Throwing more light on the app’s features, Shanmugam said, “The default behavior of the app is one that sends a contrite picture of Abhijit Mukherjee instead of a smiley and a message that says ‘I have withdrawn my statement and I tender an unconditional applogy’. Some of my friends used this app in its default mode to apologize to their angry girlfriends and it has apparently worked marvelously well! Their girlfriends were supposed to have burst into laughter on seeing the ‘applogy’, thus instantly forgetting their anger.”

When Grin asked Shanmugam about Mr. Mukherjee’s reaction to the app and its maker Google, the latter replied, “Oh, he liked my app! He said that it would be very useful to him in future and that he’d recommend it to many politicians across India. As for Google, he said that our logo was dented and painted.”
